The Background - Our Rationale for net-ecg
Axzona was born out of a genuine need for the service provided by net-ecg. One of the Directors, Alan Hughes, was heavily involved in the technical direction of the RecruitmentScotland.com project to match jobs to applicants through the medium of the Internet.
"Wondering if the site was up and running for our clients and our visitors was a constant concern for me in my role as IT Director. We used top-end technology and high quality hosting for the site and I even had local server monitoring tools running 24 hours a day. Despite this, I couldn't be sure the site was accessible from the outside world as all manner of problems could go undetected. If we did have a problem, it was most often our clients that would call to let us know and, after some diagnostic checking, I could then work out how to put it right as quickly as possible."
It was this experience that led Alan to seek an external monitoring tool that would alert him to problems from the user-perspective. He found nothing that would offer a reliable, objective and realistic picture of the site's availability and performance.
"I decided to develop a hosted service that would combine the reassurance of availability of web devices with in-depth information on their performance. It seemed to me that there was little benefit in measuring the site’s uptime alone. Site managers need to know immediately when a problem occurs. They need to know the likely cause of that problem and what they can do to rectify it. For the longer term, they also need to know and understand their site’s relative performance so that they can advise or make informed decisions on its hosting, connectivity and development. With net-ecg, this affordable and reliable technology is now available to every business."
